Context of Ezekiel 16:2
1Again the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations; 3and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto Jerusalem: Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of the Canaanite; the Amorite was thy father, and thy mother was a Hittite. 4And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to cleanse thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

Surely the state of the Jews, before the Babylonish captivity, was the most profligate and corrupt of all the nations of the earth. This chapter contains God's manifesto against this most abominable people; and although there are many metaphors here, yet all is not metaphorical. Where there was so much idolatry, there must have been adulteries…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-3Ezekiel begins by describing Jerusalem’s weak and unlikely beginnings. He says the city came from Canaanite roots and was like the child of an Amorite father and a Hittite mother. The city existed long before Israel entered the land under Joshua. During Joshua’s campaign, Israel did not fully capture Jerusalem. The city remained in the hands of its original Canaanite population. Later, King David captured Jerusalem and made it his capital. Even then, the…Read the comment
