Context of Psalms 4:5
3But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself [and dealt wonderfully with] the godly man [the one of honorable character and moral courage—the one who does right]. The Lord hears and responds when I call to Him. 4Tremble [with anger or fear], and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed and be still [reflect on your sin and repent of your rebellion]. Selah. Offer righteous sacrifices; Trust [confidently] in the Lord. 6Many are saying, “Oh, that we might see some good!” Lift up the light of Your face upon us, O Lord. 7You have put joy in my heart, More than [others know] when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.

Commentaries on Psalms 4:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness - Do not attempt to offer a sacrifice to God for prosperity in your present rebellious conduct. Such a sacrifice would be a sin. Turn to God from whom you have revolted; and offer to him a righteous sacrifice, such as the law prescribes, and such as he can receive. Let all hear and consider this saying. No sacrifice - no performance of religious duty, will avail any man, if his heart be not right with God. And let all…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness - Offer righteous sacrifices; that is, sacrifices prompted by right motives, and in accordance with the prescriptions in the law of God.
