Context of Psalms 16:6
4The sorrows [pain and suffering] of those who have chosen another god will be multiplied [because of their idolatry]; I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, Nor will I take their names upon my lips. 5The Lord is the portion of my inheritance, my cup [He is all I need]; You support my lot. The [boundary] lines [of the land] have fallen for me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. 7I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my heart (mind) instructs me in the night. 8I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6The lines - The word used here refers to the “lines” employed in measuring and dividing land, Amos 7:17; 2 Samuel 8:2. Hence, the word comes to denote a portion of land that is “measured out” (or that is “surveyed off”) to anyone - his possession or property; and hence, the word refers to the condition in life. The meaning here is, that in running out such a survey, “his” inheritance had been fixed in a pleasant and desirable part of the land. Are fallen…Read the comment
