Context of Psalms 119:84
82My eyes fail [with longing, watching] for [the fulfillment of] Your promise, Saying, “When will You comfort me?” 83For I have become like a wineskin [blackened and shriveled] in the smoke [in which it hangs], Yet I do not forget Your statutes. How many are the days of Your servant [which he must endure]? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me? 85The arrogant (godless) have dug pits for me, Men who do not conform to Your law. 86All Your commandments are faithful and trustworthy. They have persecuted me with a lie; help me [Lord]!

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 84How many are the days of thy servant? - I cannot hope to live long. I am sinking under my burdens. If I am, therefore, to see the accomplishment of my desires - my deliverance from my enemies and my troubles - it must be soon. This is not a desire to be told how long he was to live, as if it were an object of desire to know this, but it is a method of saying that he could not live long under these circumstances, and therefore he offered this earnest…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 81-88Verses 81-88 The psalmist sought deliverance from his sins, his foes, and his fears. He was become like a leathern bottle, which, if hung up in the smoke, is dried and shrivelled up. We must ever be mindful of God's statutes. The days of the believer's mourning shall be ended; they are but for a…Read the comment
