Context of Leviticus 25:20
18“Therefore you are to keep My statutes and observe My ordinances, and carry them out, so that you may live securely in the land. 19Then the land will yield its fruit, and you may eat your fill and live there in safety. Now if you ask: What are we to eat during the seventh year if, see, we are not to sow, nor gather in our increase? 21Now I will command My blessing to you in the sixth year, so that it will yield a harvest sufficient for three years. 22When you sow during the eighth year, you will still be eating the old, stored harvest until the harvest of the ninth year comes in.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 20What shall we eat the seventh year? - A very natural question, which could only be laid at rest by the sovereign promise in the next verse: I will Command my Blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for Three Years. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-22Verses 8-22 The word "jubilee" signifies a peculiarly animated sound of the silver trumpets. This sound was to be made on the evening of the great day of atonement; for the proclamation of gospel liberty and salvation results from the sacrifice of the Redeemer. It was provided that the lands should not be sold away from their families. They could only be disposed of, as it were, by leases till the year of jubilee, and then returned to the owner or his…Read the comment

After seven Sabbath years, or 49 years, came a special year called the Year of Jubilee. Like so many holy days, these times were meant for reflecting on Israel's shared identity and their relationship with God. Every Israelite, both free and servant, had a place in God’s kingdom. So, those bound in servitude were set free during the Year of Jubilee…Read the comment

All prisoners and captives obtained their liberties…Read the comment
