Context of Job 21:29
27“Behold, I know your thoughts, the schemes by which you wrong me. 28For you ask, ‘Where is the nobleman’s house and the tent where the wicked lived?’ Have you not asked travelers? Do you not recognize their accounts 30that the wicked are spared for the day of calamity that they are brought to the day of wrath? 31Who declares his conduct to his face? Who repays him for what he has done?

Information was obtained in ancient times by careful observation, and by…Read the comment

Turn to whom you will, you will find that the punishment of sinners is designed more for the other world than for this, Jude 1:14, 15. The sinner is here supposed to live in a great deal of power. The sinner shall have a splendid funeral: a poor thing for any man…Read the comment

Job, seeing that the friends will not admit him as an impartial judge, as they consider his calamities prove his guilt, begs them to ask the opinion of travellers (La 1:12), who have the experience drawn from observation, and who are no way connected with him. Job opposes this to Bildad (Job 8:8) and Zophar (Job 20:4). tokens--rather, "intimations" (for example, inscriptions, proverbs, signifying the results of their observation), testimony…Read the comment
