Jeremiah 48:11
11Moab has been at ease since his youth. He has settled like wine on its dregs. He has not been emptied from jar to jar, nor gone into exile. Therefore he retains his flavor, and his aroma has not changed.

Context of Jeremiah 48:11
9Give wings to Moab, for she must fly and get away. Her cities will become a wasteland, with no one living in them. 10Cursed is the one who does the work of Adonai with slackness, and cursed is the one who withholds his sword from blood. Moab has been at ease since his youth. He has settled like wine on its dregs. He has not been emptied from jar to jar, nor gone into exile. Therefore he retains his flavor, and his aroma has not changed. 12Therefore behold, days are coming” —it is a declaration of Adonai— “when I will send to him those who will tip him up and over, and they will empty his vessels, and smash his jars in pieces. 13So Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh just as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.

Commentaries on Jeremiah 48:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Moab hath been at ease - The metaphor here is taken from the mode of preserving wines. They let them rest upon their lees for a considerable time, as this improves them both in strength and flavour; and when this is sufficiently done, they rack, or pour them off into other vessels. Moab had been very little molested by war since he was a nation; he had never gone out of his own land. Though some had been carried away by Shalmaneser forty years before…Read the comment

From the Moabite Stone we gather that King Mesha, after the death of Ahab threw off the yoke of Israel; nor except for a short time under Jeroboam II was Israel able to bring the Moabites back into subjection. They gradually drove the Reubenites back, and recovered most of the territory taken…Read the comment
