Context of Ezekiel 27:11
9The elders of Gebal and her experts were within you, caulking your leaks. All the ships of the sea with their sailors were with you to trade for your wares. 10Persia, Lud and Put were in your army, our men of war. They hung the shield and helmet in you; they gave you splendor. Men of Arvad and Helech were all around on your walls, the Gammadim were in your towers. They hung their shields all around on your walls. They perfected your beauty. 12“‘Tarshish was your trading partner because of the abundance of all riches. With silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded for your merchandise. 13Javan, Tubal and Meshech were your traffickers—they gave lives of people and vessels of bronze for your wares.

The Vulgate reads Pygmaei, the pygmies, who were fabled to be a little people of a cubit in height, from גמד gomed . a cubit; and are told that this little people were celebrated for their wars with the cranes; but nothing of this kind can enter into this description…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1111. Gammadims--rather, as the Tyrians were Syro-Phoenicians, from a Syriac root, meaning daring, "men of daring" [Ludovicus De Dieu]. It is not likely the keeping of watch "in the towers" would have been entrusted to foreigners. Others take it from a Hebrew root, "a dagger," or short sword (Jud 3:16), "short-swordsmen."Read the comment
