Context of Ezekiel 23:14

12She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and rulers, warriors splendidly clad, horsemen riding on horses, all of them handsome young men. 13I saw that she defiled herself; they both went the same way. But she kept increasing her harlotry. She saw men carved on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans carved in red, 15girded with sashes on their loins, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them had the appearance of officers, the likeness of Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their birth. 16As soon as she saw them she lusted after them. She sent messengers to them in Chaldea.

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-18Samaria’s reputation and punishment were known to everyone in Ezekiel’s time. Her sister, Oholibah (Jerusalem), followed the same pattern of life and was even worse than her sister. The kings of Judah thought it was wise to form alliances with Babylon and Assyria. However, the prophet saw this as a pattern of ongoing spiritual unfaithfulness.Read the comment
• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. vermilion--the peculiar color of the Chaldeans, as purple was of the Assyrians. In striking agreement with this verse is the fact that the Assyrian sculptures lately discovered have painted and colored bas-reliefs in red, blue, and black. The Jews (for instance Jehoiakim, Jr 22:14) copied these (compare Eze 8:10).Read the comment
