Context of 1 Chronicles 5:17
15Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni was leader of their ancestral families. 16They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its surrounding villages, and in all the pasturelands of Sharon, up to their borders. All these were recorded by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel. 18The sons of Reuben and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 warriors ready for war—men who carried shield and sword and drew the bow, and were skilled in battle. 19So they made war with the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish and Nodab.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 5:17
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17The writer refers here to two registrations, one made under the authority of Jeroboam II when he was king and Israel flourishing, the other made under the authority of Jotham, king of Judah, during the troublous time which followed on the great invasion of Tiglath-pileser. There is nothing surprising in a king of Judah having exercised a species of lordship over the trans-Jordanic territory at this period.Read the comment
