Context of 1 Chronicles 5:17
15Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was head of their ancestral family. 16They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its surrounding villages, and throughout the pasturelands of Sharon. All of them were registered in the genealogies during the reigns of Judah’s King Jotham and Israel’s King Jeroboam. 18The descendants of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 warriors who could serve in the army — men who carried shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for war. 19They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 5:17
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17The writer refers here to two registrations, one made under the authority of Jeroboam II when he was king and Israel flourishing, the other made under the authority of Jotham, king of Judah, during the troublous time which followed on the great invasion of Tiglath-pileser. There is nothing surprising in a king of Judah having exercised a species of lordship over the trans-Jordanic territory at this period.Read the comment
