Along with them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, designated by name to give thanks to Adonai—for His mercy endures forever. 42Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for music and other instruments for praising God. The sons of Jeduthun were to be at the gate. 43Then all the people departed each one to his home, and David returned to bless his household.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4-42Verses 4-42 This passage is interposed by the writer of Chronicles between two sentences of the parallel passage in Samuel. It contains a detailed account of the service which David instituted at this time, a service out of which grew the more elaborate service of the temple. The language of much of the passage is remarkably archaic, and there can be no reasonable doubt that it is in the main an extract from a record of the time of David. 1 Chronicles…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 37-43Verses 37-43 The worship of God ought to be the work of every day. David put it into order. However, between these parts, the Chronicler adds details about the celebrations and the permanent worship arrangements (1 Chronicles 16:4–42). David’s psalm of celebration is the main focus of the account.Read the comment
