Context of Matthew 27:28
26Then he released Barabbas to them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. 27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered to him the whole band of soldiers . And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30And they spat upon him, and took the reed, and struck him on the head.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-30Verses 26-30 Crucifixion was a death used only among the Romans; it was very terrible and miserable.
