Context of Psalms 72:15
13He shall have pity on the poor and needy, and the souls of the needy he shall save. 14He shall redeem their soul from oppression and violence; and precious shall their blood be in his sight: And they shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: and men shall pray for him continually; they shall bless him all the day long. 16There shall be abundance of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth. 17His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him happy.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15To him shall be given of the gold of Sheba - The Arabians shall pay him tribute. Prayer also shall be made for him continually - In all conquered countries two things marked the subjection of the people: Their money was stamped with the name of the conqueror. They were obliged to pray for him in their acts of public worship. Daily shall he be praised - He shall not act by the conquered like conquerors in general: he shall treat them with benignity; and…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15And he shall live - So far as the lanquage here is concerned, this may either refer to the king - the Messiah - or to the poor and the oppressed man. If the former, then it means that the life of the Messiah would be perpetual; that he would not be cut off as other sovereigns are; that there would be no change of dynasty; that he would be, as a king, the same - unchanging and unchanged - in all the generations of people, and in all the revolutions which…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 2-17Verses 2-17 This is a prophecy of the kingdom of Christ; many passages in it cannot be applied to the reign of Solomon. There were righteousness and peace at first in the administration of his government; but, before the end of his reign, there were troubles and unrighteousness. The kingdom here spoken of is to last as long as the sun, but Solomon's was soon at an end. Even the Jewish expositors understood it of the kingdom of the Messiah. Observe many…Read the comment
