Context of Psalms 18:46

44As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me. 45The strangers shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their close places. The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation: 47Even the God that executeth vengeance for me, and subdueth peoples under me. 48He rescueth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me: thou deliverest me from the violent man.

• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 46The Lord liveth - Yahweh - the name used here - is often described as the living God in contradistinction to idols, who are represented as without life, Deuteronomy 5:26; Joshua 3:10; 2 Kings 19:4; Psalm 42:2; Matthew 16:16; 1 Thessalonians 1:9. Compare Psalm 115:5; Psalm 135:16. It is probably in allusion to this idea that the phrase “The Lord liveth” is used here.
