Context of 1 Chronicles 16:35
33Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy before the LORD, for he cometh to judge the earth. 34O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. 36Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD. 37So he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required:

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 16:35
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 35Save us, O God of our salvation - As he is the saving God, so we may pray to him to save us. To pray to God under the attribute the influence of which we need, serves to inspire much confidence. I am weak; Almighty God, help me! I am ignorant; O thou Father of lights, teach me! I am lost; O merciful God, save me; etc. See the notes on Psalm 96:1-13; (note) and Psalm 105 (note).Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4-42Verses 4-42 This passage is interposed by the writer of Chronicles between two sentences of the parallel passage in Samuel. It contains a detailed account of the service which David instituted at this time, a service out of which grew the more elaborate service of the temple. The language of much of the passage is remarkably archaic, and there can be no reasonable doubt that it is in the main an extract from a record of the time of David. 1 Chronicles…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-36Verses 7-36 Let God be glorified in our praises. Let others be edified and taught, that strangers to him may be led to adore him. Let us ourselves triumph and trust in God. Those that give glory to God's name are allowed to glory in it. Let the everlasting covenant be the great matter of our joy his people of old, be remembered by us with thankfulness to him. Show forth from day to day his salvation, his promised salvation by Christ. We have reason to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 7-36David’s song of thanksgiving combines three psalms: First Chronicles 16:8–22 uses Psalm 105:1–15 First Chronicles 16:23–33 uses Psalm 96 First Chronicles 16:34–38 uses Psalm 106:1, 47–48 The composer adjusted the sources for this occasion. The Temple did not exist when the ark was brought to Jerusalem, so the Chronicler says strength and joy fill his dwelling (1 Chronicles 16:27) instead of His sanctuary (Psalm 96:6) and asks the worshiper to come into…Read the comment
