Context of 1 Kings 5:4
2And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, 3Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of Yhwh his God for the wars which were about him on every side, Until Yhwh put them under the soles of his feet. But now Yhwh my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent. 5And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of Yhwh my God, as Yhwh spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name. 6Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-5Unlike David, Solomon had peace [literally rest] on all sides. Solomon’s name (Hebrew shlomoh) might be a version of the word for “peace” (Hebrew shalom). The name of the Lord represents God’s revealed character and reputation. The Hebrew term translated as the name was sometimes used when reading Scripture aloud to avoid saying God’s personal name (the tetragrammaton—YHWH). The New Testament uses the term “the name” to refer to Jesus (Acts 5:41; 3 John…Read the comment

The friendly relations which the king of Tyre had cultivated with David are here seen renewed with his son and successor, by a message of condolence as well as of congratulation on his accession to the throne of Israel. The alliance between the two nations had been mutually…Read the comment
