Context of Psalms 106:45
43Again and again he rescued them, but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin. 44Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries. He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love. 46He even caused their captors to treat them with kindness. 47Save us, O Lord our God! Gather us back from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.

He remembered that covenant in their behalf; or, on account of that, he came and blessed them. He had made gracious promises to the patriarchs; he had promised to be the God of their posterity; he had his own great purposes to accomplish through their nation in the distant future; and on these accounts, he came and blessed them. And repented - He averted impending…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 34-48Verses 34-48 The conduct of the Israelites in Canaan, and God's dealings with them, show that the way of sin is down-hill; omissions make way for commissions: when they neglected to destroy the heathen, they learned their works. One sin led to many more, and brought the judgments of God on them. Their sin was, in part, their own punishment. Sinners often see themselves ruined by those who led them into evil. Satan, who is a tempter, will be a tormentor…Read the comment
