Context of Isaiah 2:5
3People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God. There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem. 4The Lord will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore. Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord! 6For the Lord has rejected his people, the descendants of Jacob, because they have filled their land with practices from the East and with sorcerers, as the Philistines do. They have made alliances with pagans. 7Israel is full of silver and gold; there is no end to its treasures. Their land is full of warhorses; there is no end to its chariots.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5O house of Jacob - This is a direct address, or exhortation, of the prophet to the Jews. It is made in view of the fact that God had gracious purposes toward them. He intended to distinguish them by making them the source of blessings to all nations. As this was to be their high destiny, he exhorts them to devote themselves to him, and to live to his honor. The word “house” here means the “family, or nation.” The phrase is applied to the Jews because…Read the comment

God is the only light that defeats the darkness of sin and evil (Isaiah 9:2). People cannot create this light on their own (Isaiah 59:9). They must walk in the light God provides, trusting him and obeying his will (Isaiah 50:10). The phrase house of Jacob refers to Israel's special historic relationship with the Lord and their…Read the comment
