Isaiah 1:13
13Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! As for your celebrations of the new moon and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting— they are all sinful and false. I want no more of your pious meetings.

Context of Isaiah 1:13
11“What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?” says the Lord. “I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle. I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. 12When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony? Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts me! As for your celebrations of the new moon and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting— they are all sinful and false. I want no more of your pious meetings. 14I hate your new moon celebrations and your annual festivals. They are a burden to me. I cannot stand them! 15When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims.

Commentaries on Isaiah 1:13
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13The new moons and Sabbaths "The fast and the day of restraint" - ועצרה און aven vaatsarah . These words are rendered in many different manners by different interpreters, to a good and probable sense by all; but I think by none in such a sense as can arise from the phrase itself, agreeably to the idiom of the Hebrew language. Instead of און aven, the Septuagint manifestly read צום tsom, , "the fast." This Houbigant has adopted. The prophet could not well…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13Bring no more - God does not intend absolutely to forbid this kind of worship, but he expresses his strong abhorrence of the manner in which it was done. He desired a better state of mind; he preferred purity of heart to all this external homage. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-15Verses 10-15 Judea was desolate, and their cities burned. This awakened them to bring sacrifices and offerings, as if they would bribe God to remove the punishment, and give them leave to go on in their sin. Many who will readily part with their sacrifices, will not be persuaded to part with their sins. They relied on the mere form as a service deserving a reward. The most costly devotions of wicked people, without thorough reformation of heart and life…Read the comment

However, when offered with hypocrisy, it became a disgusting smell and an offense to God. The Lord had designated special fasting days at the temple (Leviticus 16:31; 23:32; Numbers 29:7), but Judah's sinfulness ruined them (see Isaiah 58:1–7; Matthew 6:16–18). solemn assembly: These holy days were associated with the new moon and other festivals (see Leviticus…Read the comment
