Context of Judges 18:24
22When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house gathered together and overtook the children of Dan. 23And they called out to the children of Dan. So they turned around and said to Micah, “What ails you, that you have gathered such a company?” So he said, “You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and you have gone away. Now what more do I have? How can you say to me, ‘What ails you?’ ” 25And the children of Dan said to him, “Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry men fall upon you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household!” 26Then the children of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Ye have taken away my gods - As Micah was a worshipper of the true God, as we have seen, he cannot mean any kind of idols by the word אלהי elohai here used. He undoubtedly means those representations of Divine things, and symbols of the Divine presence such as the teraphim, ephod, etc.; for they are all evidently included under the word elohai, which we translate my gods.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 24Micah's final speech is sad and pitiful. He started by stealing from his mother and ended up losing everything to even worse thieves. The story is full of irony, especially when Micah loses the gods he created. His fate is like that of anyone who abandons the Lord's covenant: he is left with nothing!Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 22-2622-26. the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together--The robbers of the chapel being soon detected, a hot pursuit was forthwith commenced by Micah, at the head of a considerable body of followers. The readiness with which they joined in the attempt to recover the stolen articles affords a presumption that the advantages of the chapel had been open to all in the neighborhood; and the importance which Micah, like Laban…Read the comment
