Context of Jeremiah 31:28
26After this I awoke and looked around, and my sleep was sweet to me. 27“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the Lord. 29In those days they shall say no more: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’ 30But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

Commentaries on Jeremiah 31:28
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 27-34Verses 27-34 The prophet shows that the happiness of Israel and Judah, united in one prosperous nation, will rest upon the consciousness that their chastisement has been the result of sins which they have themselves committed, and that God‘s covenant depends not upon external sanctions, but upon a renewed heart. Jeremiah 31:27 So rapid shall be the increase that it shall seem as if children and young cattle sprang up out of the ground. Jeremiah 31:29…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 27-34Verses 27-34 The people of God shall become numerous and prosperous. In Heb. 8:8,9, this place is quoted as the sum of the covenant of grace made with believers in Jesus Christ. Not, I will give them a new law; for Christ came not to destroy the law, but to fulfil it; but the law shall be written in their hearts by the finger of the Spirit, as formerly written in the tables of stone.
