Context of Psalms 68:6
4Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the Lord. 5A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. 7When you, God, went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness, 8the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6The solitary in families - יחדים yechidim, the single persons. Is not the meaning, God is the Author of marriage; and children, the legal fruit of it, are an inheritance from him?Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6God setteth the solitary in families - Margin, as in Hebrew, in a house. The word rendered solitary means properly one alone, as an only child; Genesis 22:2, Genesis 22:12, Genesis 22:16; and then it means alone, solitary, wretched, forsaken. See the notes at Psalm 22:20. The word rendered “families” would be more literally and better translated as in the margin, houses. The idea then is, not that he constitutes families of those who were solitary and…Read the comment
