Context of Esther 6:13
11So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!” 12Afterward Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered in grief, and told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him—you will surely come to ruin!” 14While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13But shalt surely fall before him - The Septuagint adds, ̔ ̔ ̔ ' , for the living God is with him. But this is a sentiment that could scarcely be expected to proceed from the mouth of heathens, such as these were.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-14Verses 12-14 Mordecai was not puffed up with his honours, he returned to his place and the duty of it. Honour is well bestowed on those that do not think themselves above their business. But Haman could not bear it. What harm had it done him? But that will break a proud man's heart, which will not break a humble man's sleep. His doom was, out of this event, read to him by his wife and his friends. They plainly confessed that the Jews, though scattered…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has begun, is Jewish, you will not prevail against him: Haman’s wife and friends saw this as more than coincidences. It is resorted to, not merely as a pastime to while away the tedium of an…Read the comment
