Context of Isaiah 26:10
8Yes, as your judgments unfold, O Lord, we wait for you. We desire your fame and reputation to grow. 9I look for you during the night, my spirit within me seeks you at dawn, for when your judgments come upon the earth, those who live in the world learn about justice. If the wicked are shown mercy, they do not learn about justice. Even in a land where right is rewarded, they act unjustly; they do not see the Lord’s majesty revealed. 11O Lord, you are ready to act, but they don’t even notice. They will see and be put to shame by your angry judgment against humankind, yes, fire will consume your enemies. 12O Lord, you make us secure, for even all we have accomplished, you have done for us.

Commentaries on Isaiah 26:10
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Let favor be showed to the wicked - This is designed as an illustration of the sentiment in the previous verse - that judgments were needful in order that wicked people might be brought to the ways of righteousness. The truth is general, that though wicked people are favored with success in their enterprises, yet the effect will not be to lead them to the ways of virtue and religion. How often is this illustrated in the conduct of wicked people! How often…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-11Verses 5-11 The way of the just is evenness, a steady course of obedience and holy conversation. And it is their happiness that God makes their way plain and easy. It is our duty, and will be our comfort, to wait for God, to keep up holy desires toward him in the darkest and most discouraging times. Our troubles must never turn us from God; and in the darkest, longest night of affliction, with our souls must we desire him; and this we must wait and pray…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1010. uprightness--rather, as in Is 26:7, "prosperity," answering to "favor" in the parallelism, and in antithesis to "judgments in the earth" (Is 26:9); where prosperity attends the wicked as well as the just, "he will not learn righteousness," therefore judgments must be sent that he may "learn" it [Maurer].Read the comment
