Context of Isaiah 1:15
13Do not bring any more meaningless offerings; I consider your incense detestable! You observe new moon festivals, Sabbaths, and convocations, but I cannot tolerate sin-stained celebrations! 14I hate your new moon festivals and assemblies; they are a burden that I am tired of carrying. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I look the other way; when you offer your many prayers, I do not listen, because your hands are covered with blood. 16Wash! Cleanse yourselves! Remove your sinful deeds from my sight. Stop sinning! 17Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow!

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15Ye spread forth your hands - This is an expression denoting the act of supplication. When we ask for help, we naturally stretch out our hands, as if to receive it. The expression therefore is equivalent to when ye pray, or implore mercy.‘ Compare Exodus 9:29; Exodus 17:11-12; 1 Kings 8:22. I will hide mine eyes - That is, I will not attend to, or regard your supplications. The Chaldee Paraphrase is, When your priests expand their hands to pray for you.‘…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-15Verses 10-15 Judea was desolate, and their cities burned. The most costly devotions of wicked people, without thorough reformation of heart and life…Read the comment
