Context of Ezekiel 40:26
24Then he led me toward the south. I saw a gate on the south. He measured its jambs and its porches; they had the same dimensions as the others. 25There were windows all around it and its porches, like the windows of the others; 87½ feet long and 43¾ feet wide. There were seven steps going up to it; its porches were in front of them. It had decorative palm trees on its jambs, one on either side. 27The inner court had a gate toward the south; he measured it from gate to gate toward the south as 175 feet. 28Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate. He measured the south gate; it had the same dimensions as the others.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 20-27The north gateway and the south gateway are described in similar ways to the east gateway. However, the description gives fewer details than it does for the east gateway. Even so, these gates were strong and impressive structures. Like the east gateway, they served as a powerful defensive barrier. They were meant to prevent any defilement (anything unclean or impure) from entering the sacred area. There was no west gateway to either the outer court or the…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 20-2720-27. The different approaches corresponded in plan. In the case of these two other gates, however, no mention is made of a building with thirty chambers such as was found on the east side. Only one was needed, and it was assigned to the east as being the sacred quarter, and that most conveniently situated for the officiating priests.Read the comment
