Context of Ezekiel 27:30
28At the sound of your captains’ cry the waves will surge; 29They will descend from their ships – all who handle the oar, the sailors and all the sea captains – they will stand on the land. They will lament loudly over you and cry bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in the ashes; 31they will tear out their hair because of you and put on sackcloth, and they will weep bitterly over you with intense mourning. 32As they wail they will lament over you, chanting: “Who was like Tyre, like a tower in the midst of the sea?”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30Shall cry bitterly - All that were on the land, seeing this dreadful sight, a gallant ship perishing with all her men and goods, are represented as setting up a dismal cry at this heart-rending sight. But what must they have felt who were on board? Reader, wert thou ever shipwrecked? Wert thou ever in a hurricane on a lee rocky shore, where the helm had lost its power, and the sails were rendered useless? Dost thou remember that apparently last moment…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-36The second part of the prophet’s message to Tyre (see study note on Ezekiel 26:1–28:19) is a funeral song. The song compares Tyre’s past glory with its present loss. It connects with the previous chapter in several ways. Both speak directly to Tyre. Both describe Tyre as a gateway and a center of trade (see Ezekiel 26:1–2). Both end with the same message: Tyre has come to a terrible end and will exist no more (compare Ezekiel 26:21).Read the comment
