20so that they may follow my statutes and observe my regulations and carry them out. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God. 21But those whose hearts are devoted to detestable things and abominations, I hereby repay them for what they have done, says the sovereign Lord.” Then the cherubim spread their wings with their wheels alongside them while the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them. 23The glory of the Lord rose up from within the city and stopped over the mountain east of it. 24Then a wind lifted me up and carried me to the exiles in Babylonia, in the vision given to me by the Spirit of God. Then the vision I had seen went up from me.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-25Verses 22-25 Here is the departure of God's presence from the city and temple. It was from the Mount of Olives that the vision went up, typifying the ascension of Christ to heaven from that very mountain. Though the Lord will not forsake his people, yet he may be driven away from any part of his visible church by their sins, and woe will be upon them when He withdraws his presence, glory, and protection.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 22-23Ezekiel’s vision of the temple (Ezekiel 8–11) ends with the chariot carrying God's glory away from the temple. God's glory paused briefly above the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, as if waiting for judgment to fall on the rebellious city. After departing to the east, it would return from the east to the renewed…Read the comment
