Context of 1 Chronicles 16:5
3He then handed out to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. 4He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the Lord, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the Lord God of Israel. Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4-42Verses 4-42 This passage is interposed by the writer of Chronicles between two sentences of the parallel passage in Samuel. It contains a detailed account of the service which David instituted at this time, a service out of which grew the more elaborate service of the temple. The language of much of the passage is remarkably archaic, and there can be no reasonable doubt that it is in the main an extract from a record of the time of David. 1 Chronicles…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-43The transfer of the ark (1 Chronicles 16:1–3) and the event's conclusion (16:43) are reported just like in Samuel (see 2 Samuel 6:17–20).
