Context of Jeremiah 39:11
9Nebuzaradan, Babylon’s captain of the guard, captured the few people left in the city, those who surrendered to him, and the rest of the people. 10But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some poor people who had nothing in the land of Judah. At that time he gave them vineyards and farms. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon gave Nebuzaradan an order concerning Jeremiah. He said, 12“Take him, and look after him. Don’t harm him in any way, but do for him whatever he asks.” 13Nebuzaradan (the captain of the guard), Nebushazban (the chief official), Nergal (the quartermaster and the chief fortuneteller), and all the other leaders of the king of Babylon sent for Jeremiah.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-14Verses 11-14 The servants of God alone are prepared for all events; and they are delivered and comforted, while the wicked suffer. They often meet with more kindness from the profane, than from hypocritical professors of godliness. The Lord will raise them up friends, do them good, and perform all his promises.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-14We do not fully know how Nebuchadnezzar learned about Jeremiah urging the king to surrender to Babylon. Perhaps Jeremiah's messages to the exiles (Jeremiah 29; see 40:2–3) reached him.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1111. Jeremiah's prophecies were known to Nebuchadnezzar through deserters (Jr 39:9; Jr 38:19), also through the Jews carried to Babylon with Jeconiah (compare Jr 40:2). Hence the king's kindness to him.Read the comment
