Isaiah 5:25
25That’s why the anger of the Lord burns hot against his people, and he is ready to use his power to strike them down. The hills tremble, and dead bodies lie like garbage in the streets. Even after all this, his anger has not disappeared, and he is still ready to use his power.

Context of Isaiah 5:25
23who declare the guilty innocent for a bribe, who take away the rights of righteous people. 24As flames burn up straw and dry grass shrivels in flames, so their roots will rot, and their blossoms will blow away like dust. They have rejected the teachings of the Lord of Armies and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. That’s why the anger of the Lord burns hot against his people, and he is ready to use his power to strike them down. The hills tremble, and dead bodies lie like garbage in the streets. Even after all this, his anger has not disappeared, and he is still ready to use his power. 26The Lord raises up a flag for the nations far away. With a whistle he signals those at the ends of the earth. Look, they are coming very quickly! 27None of them grow tired or stumble. None of them slumber or sleep. The belts on their waists aren’t loose or their sandal straps broken.

Commentaries on Isaiah 5:25
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25The hills did tremble "And the mountains trembled" - Probably referring to the great earthquakes in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, in or not long before the time of the prophet himself, recorded as a remarkable era in the title of the prophecies of Amos., Amos 1:1, and by Zechariah, Zechariah 14:5.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25Therefore is the anger of the Lord kindled - The Lord is “enraged,” or is angry. Similar expressions often occur; Numbers 11:33; 2 Kings 23:26; Deuteronomy 11:17; Psalm 56:1-13:40; Job 19:11; Psalm 2:12. The “cause” of his anger was the crimes which are specified in this chapter. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-30Verses 24-30 Let not any expect to live easily who live wickedly. Sin weakens the strength, the root of a people; it defaces the beauty, the blossoms of a people. When God's word is despised, and his law cast away, what can men expect but that God should utterly abandon them? When God comes forth in wrath, the hills tremble, fear seizes even great men. When God designs the ruin of a provoking people, he can find instruments to be employed in it, as he…Read the comment

The prophets often express God’s anger as the shaking of the earth’s foundations (Isaiah 13:13; 23:11; 24:18–19; 29:6; 54:10). God’s appearance in judgment or salvation through natural events is called a theophany (a visible display of God's presence). In these moments, God reveals himself through smoke, darkness, lightning, or earthquake (see Isaiah 6:1–4, 6; 13:13; Exodus 19:18–19; Psalm…Read the comment

The earth trembled as if conscious of the presence of God (Jr 4:24; Ha 3:6). torn--rather, were as dung (Psa 83:10).
