Context of Isaiah 48:8
6You’ve heard these words. Now look at all this. Won’t you admit it? From now on I will reveal to you new things, hidden things that you do not know. 7They are created now, not in the past. You haven’t heard about them before today, so you can’t say that you already knew about them. You have never heard about them. You have never known about them. Your ears have never been open to hear them before. I know that you’ve acted very treacherously and that you have been called a rebel since you were born. 9For my name’s sake I’ll be patient. For my glory’s sake I’ll hold my anger back from you, rather than destroy you. 10I have refined you, but not like silver. I have tested you in the furnace of suffering.

Commentaries on Isaiah 48:8
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Yea, thou heardest not - This verse is designed to show not only that these events could not have been foreseen by them, but that when they were actually made known to them, they were stupid, dull, and incredulous. It is not only re-affirming what had been said in the previous verses, but is designed to show that they were characteristically and constantly a perverse, hardened, and insensible people. The phrase, thou heardest not,‘ therefore means that…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. heardest not--repeated, as also "knewest not," from Is 48:7. from that time--Omit "that." "To open the ear" denotes obedient attention (Is 50:5); or, "was not opened" to receive them; that is, they were not declared by Me to thee previously, since, if thou hadst been informed of them, such is thy perversity, thou couldst not have been kept in check [Maurer].
