Context of Isaiah 27:2
1On that day the Lord will use his fierce and powerful sword to punish Leviathan, that slippery snake, Leviathan, that twisting snake. He will kill that monster which lives in the sea. On that day sing about a delightful vineyard. 3I, the Lord, watch over it. I water it continually. I watch over it day and night so that no one will harm it. 4I am no longer angry. If only thorns and briars would confront me! I would fight them in battle and set all of them on fire.

See De Poes. Sac. Hebrews Prael. xix., at the beginning. This, indeed, was the ancient method of singing in various nations. The song was divided into distinct portions, and the singers sang alternately…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Sing ye unto her - That is, sing unto, or respecting the vineyard. This has been well expressed here by Lowth in his translation: To the beloved Vineyard, sing ye a responsive song.‘ It is the commencement of a song, or hymn respecting Judea, represented under the image of a…Read the comment
