Context of Ezekiel 26:3
1On the first day of the month in the eleventh year, the Lord spoke his word to me. He said, 2“Son of man, Tyre said this about Jerusalem: ‘The city that was the gateway for the nations is destroyed, and its doors are swung open to me. I’ll get rich now that it’s ruined.’ So this is what the Almighty Lord says: I am against you, Tyre. I will bring many nations against you as the waves on the sea rise. 4They will destroy the walls of Tyre and tear down its towers. Then I will sweep up the dust and turn Tyre into a bare rock. 5It will become a place by the sea where people spread their fishing nets. I have spoken, declares the Almighty Lord. It will become a prize for the nations.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 26:3
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3Will cause many nations to come up against thee - We have already seen that the empire of the Chaldeans was composed of many different provinces, and that Nebuchadnezzar's army was composed of soldiers from different nations: these may be the people meant; but I doubt whether this may not refer to the different nations which in successive ages fought against Tyre. It was at last finally destroyed in the sixteenth century of the Christian era.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-6The nations Tyre wanted to trade with would instead attack her, prepared for war. Like Jerusalem, she would become loot for their armies. as the sea brings up its waves: This image fits Tyre very well. Tyre was built on a small island along the coast. Waves were a normal part of life there. The picture shows how enemies would strike Tyre again and again, like waves hitting the shore. It is a metaphor (a word picture) for a military assault.Read the comment
