Context of Deuteronomy 5:30
28When the Lord heard the words that you spoke to me, he said, “I have heard what these people said to you. Everything they said was good. 29If only they would fear me and obey all my commandments as long as they live! Then things would go well for them and their children forever. “Tell the people to go back to their tents. 31But you stay here with me. I will give you all the commands, laws, and rules that you must teach them to obey in the land which I’m giving them to possess.” 32So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you. Never stop living this way.

God's appearances have always been terrible to man, ever since the fall; but Christ, having taken away sin, invites us to come boldly to the throne of grace. They were in a good mind, under the strong convictions of the word they heard. Many have their consciences startled by the law who have them not purified; fair promises are extorted from them, but no…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-32The rest of the covenant laws explain and apply the Ten Commandments (5:6–21). These laws are based on those commandments. Moses first gave the Ten Commandments to the people of Israel almost 40 years earlier at Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:2–17). Now he reminds the people of these commands before they enter the promised land.Read the comment
