Context of 2 Samuel 6:17
15He and the entire nation of Israel brought the ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the sounding of rams’ horns. 16When the ark of the Lord came to the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked out of a window and saw King David leaping and dancing in the Lord’s presence, so she despised him. The men carrying the ark set it in its place inside the tent David had put up for it. David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in the Lord’s presence. 18When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Armies. 19He also distributed to all the people—to the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women—one loaf of bread, one date cake, and one raisin cake. Then all the people went home.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-19Verses 12-19 It became evident, that happy was the man who had the ark near him. Christ is indeed a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offence, to those that are disobedient; but to those that believe, he is a Corner-stone, elect, precious, 1Pe 2:6-8. Let us be religious. Is the ark a blessing to others' houses? We may have it, and the blessing of it, without fetching it away from our neighbours. David, at first setting out, offered sacrifices to God. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 17The special tent that David made for the ark was not as rich as the tent used during the wilderness wanderings. Even so, it returned Israel to an older wilderness tradition that had ended two generations earlier, when Shiloh was destroyed (Psalm 78:60–61). David’s tent was the final form of the tabernacle. Solomon, David’s successor, later built a permanent temple for the Lord. This event was a time of joy, not sorrow for sin. Because of this, the people…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1717. they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it--The old tabernacle remained at Gibeon (1Ch 16:39; 21:29; 2Ch 1:3). Probably it was not removed because it was too large for the temporary place the king had appropriated, and because he contemplated the building of a temple.Read the comment
