Context of 2 Samuel 6:17
15He and all the Israelites brought the Lord's Covenant Box to Jerusalem. They shouted and they made a loud noise with trumpets. 16While they were bringing the Lord's Covenant Box into the City of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked out through a window. She saw what King David was doing. He was jumping and dancing to worship the Lord. Michal felt ashamed of him. David had put up a special tent for the Covenant Box, so they took it there. They put it in its place inside the tent. Then David offered burnt offerings and friendship offerings to the Lord. 18After David had offered those sacrifices, he prayed that the Lord Almighty would bless the people. 19Then he gave a gift to every man and woman in the crowd of Israelite people. Each person received a loaf of bread, some dates and some raisins. Then all the people went to their homes.

Commentaries on 2 Samuel 6:17
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-19Verses 12-19 It became evident, that happy was the man who had the ark near him. Christ is indeed a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offence, to those that are disobedient; but to those that believe, he is a Corner-stone, elect, precious, 1Pe 2:6-8. Let us be religious. Is the ark a blessing to others' houses? We may have it, and the blessing of it, without fetching it away from our neighbours. David, at first setting out, offered sacrifices to God. We…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 17The special tent that David made for the ark was not as rich as the tent used during the wilderness wanderings. Even so, it returned Israel to an older wilderness tradition that had ended two generations earlier, when Shiloh was destroyed (Psalm 78:60–61). David’s tent was the final form of the tabernacle. Solomon, David’s successor, later built a permanent temple for the Lord. This event was a time of joy, not sorrow for sin. Because of this, the people…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1717. they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it--The old tabernacle remained at Gibeon (1Ch 16:39; 21:29; 2Ch 1:3). Probably it was not removed because it was too large for the temporary place the king had appropriated, and because he contemplated the building of a temple.Read the comment
