Context of 2 Kings 12:14
12and to the masons and the stonecutters, as well as to buy timber and quarried stone for making repairs on the house of the Lord, and for any outlay for the repairs of the house. 13But there were not made for the house of the Lord basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, for that was given to the workmen who were repairing the house of the Lord with it. 15And they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly. 16The money from the guilt offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord; it belonged to the priests.

Commentaries on 2 Kings 12:14
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-21The record of Joash's reign follows a typical format: It describes when he became king (2 Kings 11:21–12:3) It tells about his royal activities (2 Kings 12:4–18) It gives the closing notice of his reign (2 Kings 12:19–21). The main focus is Joash’s efforts to repair the temple of the Lord (2 Kings 12:4–16). Later, when the army of Aram [the Arameans] invaded, Joash took treasures from the temple and gave them away to protect his city (2 Kings 12:17–18).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 13-1613-16. Howbeit there were not made ... bowls, &c.--When the repairs of the temple had been completed, the surplus was appropriated to the purchase of the temple furniture. The integrity of the overseers of the work being undoubted, no account was exacted of the way in which they applied the money given to them, while other moneys levied at the temple were left to the disposal of the priests as the law directed (Le 5:16; Nu 5:8).Read the comment
