Context of Song of Songs 2:11
9My lover is like a gazelle or a young male deer. Look! There he is! He is standing behind our wall. He is looking through the window. He wants to see into the room. 10My lover said this to me: ‘My beautiful friend, I love you. Get up now and come with me. Look! The winter time has finished. The heavy rains have stopped. 12Flowers are appearing everywhere. It is now the season to sing happy songs. We can hear the voices of doves around us. 13New fruit is growing on the fig trees. There are flowers on the vines, and their sweet smell is in the air. I love you, my beautiful friend. Please get up now and come with me!’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11The winter is past - Mr. Harmer has made some good collections on this part, from Drs. Shaw and Russet, which I shall transcrilbe. One part of the winter is distinguished from the rest of it by the people of the East, on account of the severity of the cold. At Aleppo it lasts about forty days, and is called by the natives maurbanie. I would propose it to the consideration of the learned, whether the word here used, and translated winter, may not be…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-13Verses 8-13 The church pleases herself with thoughts of further communion with Christ. None besides can speak to the heart. She sees him come. This may be applied to the prospect the Old Testament saints had of Christ's coming in the flesh. He comes as pleased with his own undertaking. He comes speedily. Even when Christ seems to forsake, it is but for a moment; he will soon return with everlasting loving-kindness. The saints of old saw him, appearing…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-13In the Middle East, winter is the rainy season with clouds, gloom, and cold. After winter, when the rains end, the lively sights, sounds, and smells of spring boost romantic feelings.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1110-11. Loving reassurance given by Jesus Christ to the bride, lest she should think that He had ceased to love her, on account of her unfaithfulness, which had occasioned His temporary withdrawal. He allures her to brighter than worldly joys (Mi 2:10). Not only does the saint wish to depart to be with Him, but He still more desires to have the saint with Him above (Joh 17:24). Historically, the vineyard or garden of the King, here first introduced, is…Read the comment
