Context of Psalms 65:6
4You have blessed each person that you have chosen. You let them live near to you in your home. The good things that are in your holy temple will make us very happy! 5God, you are the one who saves us! You answer our prayers, and you do great things to rescue us. People from everywhere on earth trust in you, even those who live far away across the seas. You used your power to make the mountains, and you showed how strong you are. 7You stop the seas from being angry, so that their waters make no noise. You do the same with the angry nations. 8People who live far away see the great things that you have done. It makes them afraid. Everywhere on earth, east and west, people sing happy songs to praise you.

Commentaries on Psalms 65:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Setteth fast the mountains - It is by thy strength they have been raised, and by thy power they are girded about or preserved. He represents the mountains as being formed and pitched into their proper places by the mighty hand of God; and shows that they are preserved from splitting, falling down, or mouldering away, as it were, by a girdle by which they are surrounded. The image is very fine. They were hooped about by the Divine power.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains - Fixing them firm on their foundations. This is an exhibition of vast strength or power on the part of God, as if he fixed them so firm that they could not be moved - as if he handled with ease those vast masses of matter, with all their rocks and forests - and caused them to repose steadily and calmly on their foundations. We have few more exalted conceptions of the power of God than to suppose him…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-13Verses 6-13 That Almighty strength which sets fast the mountains, upholds the believer. That word which stills the stormy ocean, and speaks it into a calm, can silence our enemies. How contrary soever light and darkness are to each other, it is hard to say which is most welcome. Does the watchman wait for the morning? so does the labourer earnestly desire the shades of evening. Some understand it of the morning and evening sacrifices. We are to look upon…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-7God brought order to the mountains, the roaring oceans, and the pounding waves (see Psalms 95:4–5; 104:6–9). The psalmist compares the chaotic forces of nature with the rebellion of the nations (see Psalms 2:1–12; 33:6–11; 46:6).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 6-136-13. God's great power and goodness are the grounds of this confidence. These are illustrated in His control of the mightiest agencies of nature and nations affecting men with awe and dread (Psa 26:7; 98:1, &c.), and in His fertilizing showers, causing the earth to produce abundantly for man and beast.Read the comment
