They will no longer live in their great houses, but death will destroy their bodies in their graves. 15But God will save my life from the power of death. He will take me to a safe place with him. Selah. 16If somebody becomes rich and he has more and more things, do not be afraid!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14Like sheep they are laid in the grave - לשאול lishol, into sheol, the place of separate spirits. Death shall feed on them ירעם מות maveth yirem, "Death shall feed them!" What an astonishing change! All the good things of life were once their portion, and they lived only to eat and drink; and now they live in sheol, and Death himself feeds them? and with what? Damnation. Houbigant reads the verse thus: "Like sheep they shall be laid in the place of the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14Like sheep they are laid in the grave - The allusion here is to a flock as “driven” forward by the shepherd; and the meaning is that they are driven forward to the grave, as it were, in flocks, or as a flock of sheep is driven by a shepherd. The word rendered “are laid” - שׁתוּ śatû - is probably not derived from the verb שׁות śûth or שׁית śı̂yth as our translators seem to have supposed, but from שׁתת śâthath to set, or place; and the meaning is…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-14Verses 6-14 Here is a description of the spirit and way of worldly people. Therefore it is not men's having riches that proves them to be worldly, but their setting their hearts upon them as the best things. Worldly men have only some floating thoughts of the things of God, while their fixed thoughts, their inward thoughts, are about the…Read the comment
