Context of Psalms 109:8
6Find an evil man to judge my enemy! Put somebody at his right side to accuse him! 7When they judge him, show that he is guilty. Show that even his prayers are a sin. Make his life very short! Let somebody else do the job which he did. 9May he soon die, so that his children have no father, and his wife has no husband. 10Cause his children to have no home, so that they go from place to place, and ask people to give them food.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Let another take his office - The original is פקדתו pekuddatho, which the margin translates charge, and which literally means superintendence, oversight, inspection from actual visitations. The translation in our common Version is too technical. His bishopric, following the Septuagint, , and Vulgate, episcopatum and has given cause to some light people to be witty, who have said, "The first bishop we read of was bishop Judas." But it would be easy to…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Let his days be few - Let him be soon cut off; let his life be shortened. It cannot be wrong for an officer of justice to aim at this; to desire it; to pray for it. How strange it would be for a magistrate to pray “that a murderer or a traitor should be long lived!” And let another take his office - So every man acts, and practically prays, who seeks to remove a bad and corrupt man from office. As such an office must be filled by someone, all the efforts…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-20Verses 6-20 The Lord Jesus may speak here as a Judge, denouncing sentence on some of his enemies, to warn others. See what hurries some to shameful deaths, and brings the families and estates of others to ruin; makes them and theirs despicable and hateful, and brings poverty, shame, and misery upon their posterity: it is sin, that mischievous, destructive thing.
