Context of Psalms 106:23
21They forgot the God who had saved them, when he did great miracles in Egypt. 22He had done powerful things in the land of Ham's descendants, and at the shore of the Red Sea. His people forgot about all that! So God said that he would destroy them. But God's servant, Moses, spoke on their behalf. He asked God not to be angry with his people, and God agreed. 24Later, they did not believe God's promise to take them safely into the beautiful land of Canaan. 25They spoke against the Lord in their tents, and they did not obey him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 23Moses his chosen - Or elect; (Vulgate, electus ejus; Septuagint, ̔ ); the person that he had appointed for this work. It would be very difficult to show that this word in any part of the Old Testament refers to the eternal state of any man, much less to the doctrine of unconditional election and reprobation.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 23Therefore he said that he would destroy them - See Exodus 32:10-14. He threatened to destroy them, and he would have done it, if Moses had not interposed and pleaded for them. There was nothing strange or very unusual in this. We are constantly endeavoring to turn aside evils which would come upon others - by our intervention - by labor or by prayer. Thus, when…Read the comment
