Context of Proverbs 13:15
13If you do not accept good teaching, you will destroy yourself. If you accept good advice, it will help you to do well. 14The teaching of wise people is like a spring of water that gives life. It will keep you away from death's dangerous traps. People respect a person who has wise thoughts. But the way that wicked people live destroys them. 16Careful people need to understand what they are doing. But a fool quickly shows how foolish he is. 17If you send a message with a wicked person, he will cause trouble. But if you send someone that you can trust, he will bring peace.

Commentaries on Proverbs 13:15
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15Hard - The primary meaning of the original word is permanence (compare Deuteronomy 21:4; Micah 6:2). This may be applied as here to the hard dry rock, to running streams, or to stagnant pools. In either case, the idea is that of the barren dry soil, or the impassable marsh, in contrast with the fountain of life, carrying joy and refreshment with it.Read the comment
