Context of Numbers 14:25
23So I tell you, none of them will ever see the land that I promised to give to their ancestors. None of those men who did not trust me will see that place. 24But my servant Caleb has thought differently, and he has obeyed me completely. So I will bring him into the land that he explored. It will belong to his descendants. The Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys now. So tomorrow you must turn back. You must travel through the desert towards the Red Sea.’ 26The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 27‘These evil people have complained against me too many times! I have heard the bad things that the Israelites have said against me.

The Amalekites were the nomad bands that roved through the open pastures of the plain Numbers 14:45: the Canaanites, a term here taken in its wider sense, were the Amorites of the neighboring cities (compare Numbers 14:45 with Deuteronomy 1:44), who probably lived in league with the Amalekites…Read the comment

They wished to die in the wilderness; God made their sin their ruin, took them at their word, and their carcases fell in the wilderness.
