Context of Job 40:6
4‘I am only a foolish man. I cannot answer your questions. I cover my mouth with my hand so that I say nothing. 5I have already spoken too many times. I will say no more.’ Then the Lord spoke to Job from inside the storm. This is what he said: 7‘Prepare yourself for a difficult job! I will ask you some more questions and you must answer them. 8Do you say that I am not a fair judge? Do you want to show that I am guilty, not you? Then you could say that you are right.

God here resumes the argument which had been interrupted in order to give Job an opportunity to speak and to carry his cause before the Almighty, as he had desired, see Job 40:2. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-14Verses 6-14 Those who profit by what they have heard from God, shall hear more from him. And those who are truly convinced of sin, yet need to be more thoroughly convinced and more humbled. No doubt God, and he only, has power to humble and bring down proud men; he has wisdom to know when and how to do it, and it is not for us to teach him how to govern the world. Our own hands cannot save us by recommending us to God's grace, much less rescuing us from…Read the comment
