Context of Job 11:4
2‘Someone must answer all these words that you have spoken. You have talked a lot, but that does not mean that you are right. 3Your proud words will not cause other people to say nothing. We must make you ashamed when you laugh at us. You have said, “The things that I teach are true. God knows that I am a good man.” 5So God himself should answer you. He should tell you what he thinks. 6He would show you the secret of wisdom. True wisdom is not easy to understand. But you must understand this: God is punishing you less than you deserve.

Job had not exactly said, My doctrine and way of life are pure, and I am clean in thine eyes; but he had vindicated himself from their charges of secret sins and hypocrisy, and appealed to God for his general uprightness and sincerity…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4My doctrine is pure - The Septuagint instead of the word “doctrine” here reads “deeds,” ̓́ ergois the Syriac, “thou sayest I have acted justly.” But the word used here (לקח leqach ) means properly “fair speech” or “taking arguments,” that by which one is “taken” or captivated, from לקח lâqach “to take.” Then it means doctrine, or instruction, Proverbs 1:5; Proverbs 9:9. Here it means the views which Job had expressed. Dr. Good supposes that it means…Read the comment
