Context of Jeremiah 15:16
14Your enemies will make you their slaves in a land that you do not know. I will punish you as if in a hot fire, because I am very angry with you.’ 15‘Lord, you understand my problems. Remember me and take care of me. Please punish those people who hate me. Do not be so patient with them that they kill me. Remember that they have insulted me because I am serving you. As your words came to me, I took them into me like sweet food. I belong to you, Lord, God Almighty, so your words made me very happy. 17When people were enjoying wild parties, I did not join with them. I sat alone, because you held me. You caused me to be angry with those people. 18I am in pain which never ends. People have hurt me and nothing makes it better. Why are you not there to help me? You are like a stream that becomes dry and it has no water.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16Thy word was - the joy and rejoicing of mine heart - When I did receive the prophetic message, I did rejoice in the honor thou hadst done me; and I faithfully testified thy will to them. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15-18Verses 15-18 This is the prayer of a man in bitter grief, whose human nature cannot at present submit to the divine will. God‘s long-suffering toward the wicked seemed to the prophet to be the abandonment of himself to death; justice itself required that one who was suffering contumely for God‘s sake should be delivered. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 15-21Verses 15-21 It is matter of comfort that we have a God, to whose knowledge of all things we may appeal. Jeremiah pleads with God for mercy and relief against his enemies, persecutors, and slanderers. It will be a comfort to God's ministers, when men despise them, if they have the testimony of their own consciences. But he complains, that he found little pleasure in his work. Some good people lose much of the pleasantness of religion by the fretfulness…Read the comment
