Context of Ezekiel 28:13
11The Lord gave this message to me: 12‘Son of man, sing this funeral song about the king of Tyre. Tell him, “This is what the Almighty Lord says: At one time, you were the example of a good man. You were completely wise and beautiful. You lived in God's beautiful garden, Eden. You wore valuable jewels on your clothes. The jewels were ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. They were fixed to pieces of gold. They were ready for you to wear on the day that you were born. 14I put you there with a cherub to be your guard. You lived on my holy mountain. You walked among the stones that burned with fire. 15Everything that you did was completely good from the day that you were born. But later, you started to do wicked things.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13Thou hast been in Eden - This also is a strong irony. Thou art like Adam, when in his innocence and excellence he was in the garden of Eden! Every precious stone was thy covering - For a description of these stones see the note on Exodus 28:17.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11-19Verses 11-19 The dirge of the prince of Tyre, answering to the dirge of the state. The passage is ironical; its main purpose is to depict all the glory, real or assumed, of “the prince of Tyrus,” in order to show how deplorable should be his ruin. Ezekiel 28:12 To “seal the sum” is to make up the whole measure of perfection. Compare the Septuagint Ezekiel 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden - “Thou” wast etc. The prince of Tyrus is ironically described as the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-14Ezekiel mocks Tyre’s claim to great age and importance. He describes the king as if he had been in Eden at the beginning of the world. He presents him as a powerful angelic guardian. These heavenly beings carried the Lord’s throne in Ezekiel 1 and guarding the garden in Genesis 3. In this picture, the king had access to the holy mountain of God. In the Bible, mountains are often linked with God’s presence. The fiery stones may refer to shining gemstones…Read the comment

In the person of the king of Tyre a new trial was made of humanity with the greatest earthly advantages. But as in the case of Adam, the good gifts of God were only turned into…Read the comment
